The Intelligent Choir E-Book

Practice-oriented E-book for Choir Directors and Music Teachers

by Jim Daus Hjernøe

The Intelligent Choir E-Book aims to present the philosophy and methods behind TIC (The Intelligent Choir) in an authoritative and practice-oriented guide for the choral leaders and music educators of the future.

The book is structured around the core principles of the TIC philosophy, with chapters that introduce key concepts, explore central methods such as Vocal Painting, and offer practical exercises and reflection sections. It combines theory and practice with a strong focus on creativity, improvisation, and collective musical responsibility.

The material is drawn from both existing empirical research and the author’s many years of teaching experience at the Royal Academy of Music (DJM) as well as from international collaborations.

Development takes place in close dialogue with colleagues, students, and professional partners, and the chapters are continuously shaped through peer feedback. In parallel, the content of the book is being integrated into an updated version of the VOPA app, allowing readers to access video demonstrations and interactive exercises via QR codes.

The book is scheduled for publication in January 2026 in both Danish and English, in digital formats (PDF and ePub), and will be made available through DJM’s platforms and international networks. Design and layout are being developed in collaboration with graphic designers, and the English edition is being quality-assured in collaboration with experienced colleagues.

This post serves as a preliminary status update and will later be supplemented with more concrete material – including the development of a presentation poster.
