Jim Daus Hjernøe is a Professor at the Royal Academy of Music, Denmark (DJM/RAMA).

He is the founder of RAMA Vocal Center (established in 2010) – an internationally recognized hub known for its groundbreaking work in Jazz/Pop Choir Directing and innovative learning approaches. Jim’s influence extends far beyond the academy, inspiring educators, students, and collaborators across the world.

Since 2002, Jim has devoted his career to the development of improvisational vocal art. His pioneering work led to the creation of Vocal Painting (VOPA) – a musical sign language for choirs that has become a cornerstone of his teaching philosophy, The Intelligent Choir (TIC). The philosophy focuses on empowering choir leaders to engage and develop their singers through shared understanding, responsibility, and the transformative experience of creating music together.

Today, Jim heads the development of the Master’s and Advanced Soloist programs in Jazz/Pop Choir Directing under RAMA Vocal Center in Aarhus, digitally supported practices across RAMA, and the Bachelor’s and Master’s programs in General Music Leadership (AM) in Aarhus.
