Amalgam – Niels-Ole Bo Johansen, trombone and Erik Kaltoft, piano
Niels-Ole Bo Johansen has been teaching at The Royal Academy of Music in Aarhus since 1989. He became a bandsman in the army and in 1986 trombonist in the Aarhus Symphony Orchestra, which he left in 2000 when being appointed to a full professorship at the academy.
He keeps a busy schedule performing, teaching and conducting with his various programmes and musical combinations such as solo trombone recitals, trombone and computer recitals, trombone and organ duo with professor Ulrik Spang-Hanssen and as trombonist in Århus Sinfonietta.
Niels-Ole Bo Johansen har performed and lectured at several of the Internation Trombone Association Festival and hosted the festival in 2009 in Aarhus, Denmark. He has served as 2nd Vice President of the International Trombone Association 2011-2014 as well as being a member of the Internation Trombone Festival board since 2008.
He has over the years mad 15 solo CDs and has edited most of Edition WHs works for trombone.
Erik Kaltoft studied music and piano at The Royal Academy of Music Aarhus, subsequently adding a further perspective by studying under Yvonne Lefébure in France. His musical profile is characterised by a high level of activity – both as a soloist, chamber musician and accompanist. As a member of the chamber music groups The Elsinore Players and LINensemble he has toured in South America, Japan, Korea, China, Vietnam and most European countries.
The special fields of New Music, Chamber Music and Vocal Music have always had a crucial influence on his repertoire, and these interests have led to many different ventures within musical life.
Art director of Århus Sinfonietta and adjudicator in Danmarks Radio’s chamber music competition.
Erik Kaltoft has been involved in the first performance of more than 200 works – many of them Danish – as well as numerous recordings.
After many years as assistant professor at The Royal Academy of Music Aarhus/Aalborg, Erik Kaltoft held the position of professor from 2005-2010 at The Danish National Academy of Music in Odense.
