Nordic Saxophone Festival despite covid 19
Nordic Saxophone Festival is an annual event at the Academy in Aarhus, where classical saxophonists from all over Europe meet and play chamber music together and present the results at a number of concerts. In addition, there are usually workshops, seminars, etc.
Despite the pandemic the festival will be held in 2021 on 28th to 31st March with three online concerts and three online talks. There is free access to both concerts and talks. Participation in the talks requires registration. All interested parties can register.
The first concert presents Jutlandia Saxophone Quartet on 28 March at 19.30, with a pure tango program. One of the quartet’s members has Argentine roots and has arranged original tango numbers for saxophone quartet.
The other two concerts are partly with the Acedemy’s talented saxophone students, partly a joint concert from the Symphonic Hall with both students and teachers and with music by Dvorak, Ravel and Joaquin Turina.
All concerts are streamed live via the festival’s Facebook page.
At the online talks, the participants meet three internationally prominent saxophonists. A comprehensive overview of all concerts and talks can be found via the Academy’s concert calendar.
Through the Nordic Saxophone Festival, the saxophone community at the Academy has built up a strong network throughout Europe. With this year’s corona edition of the festival, it is still possible to nurture the network, and at the same time it helps to keep the saxophone students going.
