Theory Seminar: Theories of Harmony and Tonal Affinity

Music theory is, at the same time, both a very large and a very small subject at the conservatory. It is included to some extent in all study programs and thus reaches all students. However, only very few students have music theory as their main subject instead of an instrument.

In recent years, however, the Academy has had a larger group of theory students than it has had for many years. This provides a basis for extra activities, including a series of public seminars as well as a masterclass – something that has not been held in music theory for decades.

Since music theory is the foundation for everything else, all students and teachers at the conservatory are warmly invited to participate in one or more of the public events. Likewise, external guests are also very welcome – there is open and free admission for all interested.

The first seminar – on “Harmonic Theories and Tonal Affinity” – will be led by RAMA’s own associate professor in music history, Torkil Mølle. The seminar will be held in Danish, from 19:00 to 21:00 in room 432, at the Academy in Musikhuset Aarhus, entrance Skovgaardsgade 2C.
