RAMA Prominently Represented at SPOT Festival 2026

For many years, the Royal Academy of Music Aarhus/Aalborg has had its very own stage at SPOT Festival: the Club Stage (Klubscenen) in Musikhuset Aarhus. Each year, the stage presents a wide range of new talents from the Academy, showcasing a very broad musical spectrum within jazz/pop and electronic music and related genres. This year, RAMA presents a total of 14 solo artists/bands on the Club Stage on Friday and Saturday, 1–2 May.

In recent years, RAMA has also offered a special experience with UnderSPOT, where audiences can gain insight into the extensive preparatory work that takes place in the rehearsal rooms. Here, the doors to teaching and rehearsal spaces are opened while work is underway on a wide variety of music. Audiences can experience a total of 15 young talents “in work mode,” spread across five different rooms, on Saturday between 2:00 and 5:00 PM.

Last year, RAMA opened an entirely new stage at SPOT Festival: the Chamber Music Hall (Kammermusiksalen) in Musikhuset. This stage presents more semi-acoustic concerts, carefully curated to invite audiences into contemplative and intimate listening experiences, with attentive listening at the very center. Here, audiences can experience five different RAMA acts on Saturday from 2:00 to 8:00 PM.

Last year, RAMA was also part of “Roots & Hybrid,” organized by the venue Turkis in connection with SPOT Festival. This year, Turkis participates in the festival with a concert on Saturday afternoon featuring Hawa Kassé Mady Diabaté from Mali. The concert concludes a mini-tour in Denmark and Sweden that Diabaté has carried out in the week leading up to the festival, arranged in collaboration between RAMA, SPOT, K’man Productions, and .OneWorld.

Hawa Kassé Mady Diabaté is a powerful Malian singer with an outstanding band playing n’goni, balafon, percussion, and guitar. She is part of the proud griot tradition, in which music unites storytelling, emotions, and cultural heritage. Her late father, Mady Diabaté, was one of Mali’s greatest singing stars.

The visit from Mali is an extension of RAMA’s many years of engagement in Mali, where RAMA, among many other initiatives, has helped establish a local music festival, SPOT on Mali, inspired by the Aarhus-based SPOT Festival. In connection with her visit, Diabaté has held a workshop at RAMA. On Saturday at SPOT Festival, in addition to the concert at Turkis, she will take part in a networking meeting at Turkis (11:00 AM–12:00 PM) for stakeholders interested in cultural exchange with Africa, as well as in a live radio broadcast on the local station Sydhavnsbølgen, featuring music and conversation about Malian music. Admission to both the networking meeting and the radio broadcast is free, and both events take place at Turkis.
