The Czech-born 37-year-old guitarist Petra Poláčková joins the Academy as honorary Professor. The accession will be marked with a concert at the Aalborg Guitar Festival on Friday 18 November 2022. See more about the concert here. In addition to the concert, Poláčková also teaches the Academy’s guitar students on 19 and 20 November.
Petra Poláčková has won 17 prizes at national and international guitar competitions, including 10 first prizes. She has performed and given masterclasses at numerous guitar festivals in a large number of European countries as well as in Israel and the USA.
The American music magazine “Cleveland Classical” wrote in a review: “Poláčková’s playing was so technically secure and musically perceptive that it was inconceivable that anything she played could be difficult.”
Poláčková has mainly worked with romantic guitar music and with older music. Her 2020 debut album featured music by German lutenist Leopold Weiss, recorded on a 9-string romantic guitar.
Associate Professor in classical guitar at the Academy Frederik Munk Larsen states:
“It is a great pleasure to be able to welcome the guitarist Petra Poláčková as an honorary professor at the Academy. It is a definite scoop for the Academy to be able to associate Petra, she is one of the guitar’s most present and inspiring musicians. She is able to unite captivating interpretations of an exciting solo repertoire with a genuine passion for teaching young generations of classical guitarists.”
Petra Poláčková will be part of the Academy’s lecture group in classical guitar, which also includes Frederik Munk Larsen, Morten Skott and Viggo Mangor.
