Mo-Yi von Bülow continues as Professor of Violin
Professor of Violin Mo-Yi von Bülow will continue in her position at the Academy following the mandatory re-advertisement of her professorship in accordance with Danish legislation concerning contract-employed professors.
RAMA is delighted both that Mo-Yi von Bülow wishes to continue as Professor of Violin with us and that the internationally composed assessment committee selected her as the strongest candidate among all applicants.
Proncipal Keld Hosbond comments:
“Mo-Yi is a highly valued teacher who has provided stability and continuity in the violin class at the Royal Academy of Music since 2013. With her extensive artistic and international experience, she is a major asset to the Academy’s classical department.”
From China via Germany to Denmark
Mo-Yi von Bülow’s artistic education began at the Central Conservatory of Music in Beijing, where she became the institution’s first Master of Violin. She continued her violin studies at several conservatories in Germany and at the Conservatoire Supérieur de Paris.
Both during her studies and throughout her professional career, she has received numerous international awards and distinctions, including prizes from the Treffen Alte Musik im Musikinstrumenten-Museum Berlin, the 16th Förderpreis Competition of the Munich Concert Society, the Maria Canals International Music Competition in Barcelona, the International Telemann Competition in Magdeburg, and the International Joseph Haydn Chamber Music Competition in Vienna.
A broad repertoire – with a special interest in baroque music
Mo-Yi von Bülow’s repertoire spans from the baroque period to contemporary music. Baroque music, in particular, occupies a central place in her artistic and pedagogical work. She has specialized in historically informed performance practice and baroque violin and has recorded several CDs featuring music by Handel, Vivaldi, and Telemann. “This music fascinates me with its diversity and expressive power,” says Mo-Yi von Bülow.
As a soloist, chamber musician, and concertmaster, she has performed on numerous international stages. For many years, she served as principal player in the Randers Chamber Orchestra and remains closely associated with the ensemble as a guest concertmaster.
At the end of October, Mo-Yi von Bülow will perform at the New Music for Strings Festival in Aarhus, including appearances alongside Eugene Drucker of the world-renowned Emerson String Quartet. The programme will feature contemporary works ranging from compositions by Vagn Holmboe to brand-new music.
