Lied concert: Winterreise

Soprano Emilie Haaning Christensen is a master’s student at the Royal Academy of Music in Aarhus. At this concert, she performs one of the most iconic romantic vocal works within the Lied genre, Schubert’s song cycle Winterreise. She has worked on the piece as part of an elective course with associate Professor Søren Rastogi at the Academy.

Emilie Haaning Christensen
Emilie Haaning Christensen is a German-Danish soprano. She studied voice at the Hochschule für Musik Freiburg with Prof. Mareike Morr and at the Mozarteum University Salzburg with Prof. Andreas Macco. She is currently pursuing her Master’s degree at the Royal Academy of Music in Aarhus, studying with soprano Signe Asmussen and pianist Søren Rastogi. Additionally, she has received lessons from Brigitte Fassbaender, Andreas Scholl and Stephan Genz.
She has performed roles such as Fiordiligi (Così fan tutte), Cupido/Minerva (Orpheus in the Underworld), Nanette (Der Wildschütz), and the Second Lady (Die Zauberflöte). In 2018, she was awarded a sponsorship prize from the Lotte Lehmann Academy. In October 2024, she was one of five soloists performing Wagner’s Wesendonck Lieder with the Mozarteum University Symphony Orchestra under the baton of Ion Marin at the Haus für Mozart in Salzburg.
From 2016 to 2022, she served as artistic director of the concert association Junge Musik in Schwerin e.V., where she conducted choral and orchestral projects, including several world premieres of works by composers from Schwerin.
Søren Rastogi
Søren Rastogi is an associate Professor at the Academy and one of Denmark’s most versatile concert pianists. He has performed as a soloist with most of the Danish symphony orchestras. He is frequently engaged as a sonata partner for instrumentalists and has given recitals with international artists such as Andreas Brantelid, Benjamin Schmid, and Sergei Dogadin. He is a regular guest at many chamber music festivals, including the Bergen International Festival, Stavanger Chamber Music Festival, and Tivoli Summer Festival. Rastogi collaborates closely with leading Scandinavian singers, including baritone Johannes Weisser, with whom he released the CD Visiting Grieg. Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung called the release ‘masterful’, and Classic FM named it ‘CD of the Month’.”
