New Music for Strings: Songs of the Earth

At the heart of this concert are the poems of Denise Levertov, inspired by nature, love and her faith in God. Eugene Drucker, a violinist in the Emerson String Quartet for nearly 50 years, has set her texts in “Songs of the Earth” for mezzo-soprano and strings, heard here in its Danish premiere with Drucker himself and mezzo-soprano Susannah Woodruff. The program also includes music by great 20th century Danish composers Vagn Holmboe and Knudåge Riisager and a new work by Danish rising star composer Sophie Meyer.

Works by Eugene Drucker, Sophie Meyer, Vagn Holmboe, and Knudåge Riisager.
