DIEM student at the first algo-rave
January 4 the newspaper Information had a report from the very first “algo-rave” in Denmark; an algorithm-rave party with darkness, dance, light show and loud electronic music. At an algo-rave, the musicians not only play electronic music on their laptops, they also write the codes behind the music live and project the codes onto a large screen so that the audience can keep up with the live composition.
Among the musicians was Mads Kjeldgaard, who studies electronic composition at DIEM at RAMA. Live coding is a new phenomenon in Denmark. Many of the performers of the autumn’s first Danish algo-rave in Odense were from abroad. In many places abroad, live coding is a growing trend in electronic music, and algo-raves have spread from England to a number of big cities around the world.
