Collaboration with Århus Sinfonietta and Aarhus Jazz Orchestra
At two concerts in mid-November, several Academy’s students shall work with completely new music in both jazz/pop and classical tradition, and in close collaboration with professional musicians.
The projects are planed in collaboration with two of the largest professional ensembles in Aarhus: Århus Sinfonietta and Aarhus Jazz Orchestra. The concerts are held as follows:
RAMA and Århus Sinfonietta: Sunday 15 November at 19.00 in Lukaskirken, Aarhus
RAMA and Aarhus Jazz Orchestra: Tuesday 17 November at 20.00 in Rhythmic Hall, Musikhuset Aarhus
At the concert with Århus Sinfonietta, the sinfonietta’s ensemble will be expanded with over 20 students, so that together they form a new and large chamber orchestra. The orchestra plays the Swedish-German composer Lisa Streich’s guitar concerto “Augenlider”, with the Academy’s guitar lecturer Frederik Munk Larsen as soloist.
In addition, the orchestra plays music by two of the Academy’s composition students, Monika Szpyrka and Michael Hope. Thus, both preforming and creative students gain valuable experience in working professionally with brand new music. For the Aarhus Sinfonietta, it is important through this collaboration to support the musical food chain.
The concert with Aarhus Jazz Orchestra also features the Aarhus band Abekejser, which consists of former students from the Academy. The concert will be a unique musical encounter between the band’s futuristic, frontier-seeking jazz and the sound of big band.
Based on a number of songs by Abekejser, composition students from the Academy’s jazz/pop programme have written completely new arrangements for big band, which are played by Aarhus Jazz Orchestra together with Abekejser – and also several of the Acedemy’s jazz/pop instrumentalists participate on stage.
Also through this collaboration, both preforming and creative students gain valuable experience in working professionally with brand new music.
