On Wednesday, 17 June 2026, the first students will graduate from the \u201cMusic and Co\u2011Creation\u201d program in Holstebro.<\/em><\/p>\n

It is nothing less than a milestone that musicians are now being educated at the highest level in one of Denmark\u2019s media\u2011sized provincial towns\u2014until now, conservatory programs have been limited to the five largest cities.<\/p>\n

It is also a significant innovation that an entire conservatory program\u2014not just a single course within it\u2014focuses on cross-disciplinary collaboration, both with other art forms and with entirely different sectors.<\/p>\n

Co\u2011Creation<\/h3>\n

Throughout their studies, students from \u201cMusic and Co\u2011Creation\u201d have been trained to work innovatively and deliberately with projects that extend beyond music environments, reaching into all branches of cultural life and society at large.<\/p>\n

These may include projects with dancers or actors, where participants share the creative process; or projects involving groups who are not typically artistic practitioners, such as mothers with young children or residents in nursing homes.<\/p>\n

Among the program\u2019s many partners are institutions such as the Danish National School of Performing Arts and Nordisk Teaterlaboratorium, as well as the healthcare sector and the local library.<\/p>\n

The new program is aimed at all types of musicians, regardless of instrument and whether they primarily see themselves as songwriters, composers, producers, or performers\u2014the participatory and creative collaboration is central.<\/p>\n

The Relocation Reform<\/h3>\n

The establishment of the new conservatory program in Holstebro in 2023 is a result of a 2021 government decision to relocate a number of higher education programs to smaller towns, away from the major university cities.<\/p>\n

It was not an easy task to launch a new conservatory program in a medium\u2011sized provincial town, but by creating a program with a unique profile, it has been possible to attract a sufficient number of students to Holstebro. Both the first- and second-year cohorts now form a viable academic environment.<\/p>\n

It has not yet been decided when a master\u2019s degree in Music and Co\u2011Creation will be established in Holstebro. The new bachelor graduates will continue on various master\u2019s programs at the conservatory in Aarhus. However, after the summer, three new students at soloist level will begin in Holstebro. They already hold other music-related master\u2019s degrees but wish to expand their expertise with the distinctive focus offered by the program in Holstebro.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
