For more than 80 years, it has educated excellent musicians and music teachers, and it is constantly evolving in new directions and exploring new subject areas. The Academy consistently strives to align its programmes with the needs of the job market and of each individual student.

The Academy emphasises “complete musicianship” and an entrepreneurial mind set, giving students an understanding of the fact that contemporary life as a professional musician often encompasses many different aspects and working areas.

Our postgraduate programmes and further education offerings target Academy graduates as well as teachers, pedagogues, organists, music industry employees, and similar professionals.

Structure: the 3 + 2 model

All higher education programmes in Denmark are structured on the university model, offering a bachelor degree and a master’s degree of three and two years, respectively. At the Academy, each programme concludes with a major project.

Each programme is rewarded with ECTS points. ECTS is a standardised, common European point system indicating the total estimated workload involved in completing a given programme.

This standard enables student exchanges with academies and universities abroad, and it also makes it possible to combine a Danish music academy degree with, for example, graduate music studies abroad.

Bachelor

The bachelor degree (BMus) provides basic musician and music teacher skills. It includes a broad range of general, mandatory subjects in addition to main subject tuition.

Graduates are entitled to use the title Bachelor of Music (BMus) and qualify for further studies at MMus level. The degree can also be the starting point of a career in music.

Master

The master’s degree (MMus) programme builds on the BMus degree, usually with the same main subject. The MMus programme is structured more freely. Students are more at liberty to structure their programmes, specialising in their exact area of interest.

Graduates are entitled to use the title Master of Music (MMus).

Soloist

Students with an aptitude for soloist work may apply for the soloist programme, qualifying through an admissions test. The programme focuses on the student’s main subject and on concert performances. The two-year programme is concluded with a public concert performance.

Curricula

The overall content, objectives, and framework of the programmes are described in the study programmes. These do not, however, contain any concrete information about each individual programme.

You can find more detailed descriptions of each individual programme, including content, scope, ECTS points etc., in the curricula.

The study programmes and the curricula are available in the menu.

Highest level, cross-disciplinary collaboration Each programme focuses on educating students to the very highest level within each area and main subject.
