{"id":4354,"date":"2019-08-28T16:03:26","date_gmt":"2019-08-28T14:03:26","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/musikkons.dk\/?page_id=4354"},"modified":"2021-06-11T13:25:42","modified_gmt":"2021-06-11T11:25:42","slug":"research-and-development","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/musikkons.dk\/en\/what-else\/research-and-development\/","title":{"rendered":"Research and Development"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>At The Royal Academy of Music, Aarhus\/Aalborg (RAMA) Research and Development (R&amp;D) is conducted by the teachers and organized and carried out in accordance with RAMA\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/musikkons.dk\/wp-content\/uploads\/pdf\/Forskningsstrategi-DJM_2020_FIN.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Research Strategy<\/a> (in Danish) and with RAMA&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/musikkons.dk\/wp-content\/uploads\/pdf\/Strategi-for-K_PUV-2019-2022_FIN.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Strategy for artistic and educational development<\/a> (in Danish).<\/p>\n<h2>Research<\/h2>\n<p>RAMA\u2019s research strategy focuses on musical perception, cognition and learning. Hereby, RAMA aims to maintain its research focus where the academy, as an artistic and pedagogical educational institution, has its particular competences and where the research possesses the greatest potential in relation to the academy\u2019s other activities.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Examples of RAMA research projects:<\/strong><br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/musikkons.dk\/det-laver-vi-ogsaa\/forskning-og-udvikling\/forskning\/djm-projekter\/masseeksperiment-2016\/\">Masseeksperiment 2016<\/a><br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/musikkons.dk\/det-laver-vi-ogsaa\/forskning-og-udvikling\/forskning\/djm-projekter\/motivation-og-laering-i-musikalske-outreach-projekter\/\">Motivation og l\u00e6ring i musikalske outreach projekter<\/a><\/p>\n<h4>Music in the brain<\/h4>\n<p>Parts of RAMA\u2019s research activities take place in the context of the Danish National Research Foundation\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/musicinthebrain.au.dk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Center for Music in the Brain<\/a> (MIB), established through a unique cooperation between Department of Clinical Medicine at Aarhus University and Center for Functional Integrative Neuroscience (CFIN) and headed by professor Peter Vuust. As an example, MIB researchers, with the use of state-of-the-art brain scanning technology, examine how musical training may change the human brain\u2019s processing of music. In a wider perspective this research has the potential to further develop the way in which we listen to, play and teach music.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Examples of MIB research projects:<\/strong><br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/onlinelibrary.wiley.com\/doi\/full\/10.1111\/jsr.12817\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">A randomized controlled trial of bedtime music for insomnia disorder<\/a><br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/asa.scitation.org\/doi\/10.1121\/1.5097587\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Increased levels of bass in popular music recordings 1955\u20132016 and their relation to loudness<\/a><br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/www.clinicalkey.com\/#!\/content\/playContent\/1-s2.0-S1364661318302547?returnurl=https:%2F%2Flinkinghub.elsevier.com%2Fretrieve%2Fpii%2FS1364661318302547%3Fshowall%3Dtrue&amp;referrer=https:%2F%2Fpure.au.dk%2Fportal%2Fen%2Fpublications%2Fpredictive-processes-and-the-peculiar-case-of-music(86e7d120-b890-444f-820e-47a7f305706a).html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Predictive Processes and the Peculiar Case of Music<\/a><\/p>\n<h2>Development<\/h2>\n<p>RAMA\u2019s development activities cover both artistic and educational fields.<\/p>\n<h4>Artistic research<\/h4>\n<p>Artistic research is conducted in the shape of e.g. composing of new music, rehearsal and recording of rare compositions, conception of novel musical genres and concert designs. As opposed to artistic practice, artistic research must be novel and be accompanied by a reflection on the process and the results.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Examples of Artistic Research projects from RAMA website:<\/strong><br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/musikkons.dk\/det-laver-vi-ogsaa\/forskning-og-udvikling\/kunstnerisk-udvikling\/2018-19\/guitarrama-jazzical\/\">GuitarRama Jazzical<\/a><br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/musikkons.dk\/det-laver-vi-ogsaa\/forskning-og-udvikling\/kunstnerisk-udvikling\/2016-17\/concierto-de-scheherazade\/\">Concierto de Scheherazade<\/a><br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/musikkons.dk\/det-laver-vi-ogsaa\/forskning-og-udvikling\/kunstnerisk-udvikling\/2015-16\/det-intelligente-kor\/\">Rytmisk korledelse \u2013 Det Intelligente Kor<\/a><\/p>\n<h4>Educational development<\/h4>\n<p>Educational development may have many different goals, and is a prioritized activity as part of the conception of new methodological teaching approaches as well as material for the broad music teaching field. Hence, knowledge generated from educational development may contribute to the renewal and expansion of form and content in the practice and theory conveyed to students in the teaching of group-based and instrumental pedagogy as well as qualify and update the supervision given in relation to the students\u2019 teaching internship.<\/p>\n<p>Educational development is, however, not restricted to the field of pedagogics but may also apply within other topics such as solfege and music theory. Recently RAMA has had specific focus on the application of e-learning within many different fields of teaching.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Examples of educational development projects from RAMA website:<\/strong><br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/musikkons.dk\/det-laver-vi-ogsaa\/forskning-og-udvikling\/paedagogisk-udvikling\/2018-19\/blended-piano\/\">Blended Piano<\/a><br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/musikkons.dk\/det-laver-vi-ogsaa\/forskning-og-udvikling\/paedagogisk-udvikling\/2017-18\/inspirerende-akkordklange-til-jazz-og-pop\/\">Inspirerende akkordklange til Jazz og Pop<\/a><br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/www.rasmusbirk.com\/projects\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Audiovisual teaching material for rhythmic guitar and drums<\/a><\/p>\n<h2>Research committee<\/h2>\n<p>RAMA\u2019s research committee puts out annual calls for internal research grants and evaluates applications and project descriptions with the purpose of guiding the management\u2019s final funding decisions. Furthermore, RAMA\u2019s research committee is responsible for the dissemination and sharing of knowledge from R&amp;D, organization of research courses and the development of applications for external grants in close collaboration with the teachers. Chairman for RAMA\u2019s research committee is Professor <a href=\"https:\/\/musikkons.dk\/en\/about-djm\/employees\/peter-blaesild-vuust\/\">Peter Vuust<\/a>. Associate professor <a href=\"https:\/\/musikkons.dk\/en\/about-djm\/employees\/1407\/\">Bj\u00f8rn Petersen<\/a> is a member of the committee also and coordinates R&amp;D activities.<\/p>\n<h2>International Center for Knowledge in the Arts<\/h2>\n<p>Together with the other six artistic educational institutions under the Ministry of Culture RAMA stands behind the <a href=\"https:\/\/artisticresearch.dk\/en\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">International Center for Knowledge in the Arts<\/a>, which works across artistic disciplines and institutions to promote artistic knowledge and development.<\/p>\n<p>The center was founded in the autumn of 2019 as a joint knowledge center for the higher artistic educational institutions under the Ministry of Culture.
