Strategy and Artistic Citizenship<\/h2>\n

Since the appointment of a board for the Royal Academy of Music (RAMA) in September 2023, the overall goals of the Academy are defined by the current strategy. From 2019, RAMA has been working with artistic citizenship as an overall strategic direction for the programmes.<\/em><\/p>\n

Strategy<\/h4>\n

Previously, RAMA\u2019s objectives and performance requirements were defined by a framework agreement between the Ministry of Culture and RAMA. Following the appointment of an independent board, the overall goals are now defined by the strategy and a number of strategic guiding principles set out within it.<\/p>\n

These guiding principles are then translated into a number of concrete action plans.<\/p>\n

At the end of 2024, the board adopted the new strategy for RAMA for the period 2025\u20132029:<\/p>\n

RAMA Strategy 2025\u201329<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n

The strategy states that for a number of years RAMA has insisted that high-level musical expertise and societal relevance go hand in hand. The new strategy for 2025\u201329 thus builds on the foundations of previous strategies, with their focus on artistic citizenship, the holistic musicianship, and student-centred learning.<\/p>\n

The strategy has been developed with the involvement of RAMA\u2019s students, staff, and external stakeholders. This involvement took place through meetings and workshops during 2024. The results of this process have been summarized in an internal and an external stakeholder analysis.<\/p>\n

We promote the development of the arts and culture in Denmark through the highest level of music education at an international standard. We carry out development activities and research, and as a cultural institution we support early-career development and general cultural activity.<\/p>\n

We aim to spearhead the development of artistic citizenship and strive to make an impact nationally and internationally through the highest level of professional excellence, world-centered education, and diversity.<\/p>\n

Artistic Citizenship<\/h4>\n

Music creates experiences, joy in life, and social cohesion. Music is not detached from the surrounding world but is an active part of society. Therefore, one can speak of a particular form of citizenship that concerns musicians, artists, and the associated educational programmes\u2014an Artistic Citizenship<\/em>.<\/p>\n

Artistic citizenship is an outward-looking strategy and approach to arts education that believes art can and should play a role in society. It insists that art must be an active part of our society and that the musician should take on an engaged role within it. This could, for example, involve participating as a musician in social or healthcare-related activities.<\/p>\n

The starting point will always be high artistic quality. But that is not enough. RAMA strives for students to relate equally to their market value as artists and their relevance to the surrounding society. This equips them for a sustainable working life as musicians of high artistic quality, while also benefiting society at the same time.<\/p>\n

Magazine on Artistic Citizenship<\/strong>
\nIn the spring of 2023, RAMA published a magazine that presents the ideas behind artistic citizenship in greater detail and describes a number of areas, projects, and subjects that revolve around artistic citizenship.<\/p>\n
